Coastal Ocean Beach Report For July 9, 2016

Choppy surf, moderate risk of rip currents today.

The National Weather Service is calling for mostly cloudy skies today with a chance of thunderstorms.

The heat wave has broken, with temperatures today only in the upper 70s. Beach winds will be from the southeast at 10 miles per hour.

The surf will be around three feet, with east-northeast swells from two to three feet. The surf temperature is 74 degrees.

There's a moderate risk of rip currents, which means wind and or wave conditions make stronger or more frequent support rip currents possible. Always have a flotation device with you in the water and discuss any surf zone hazards with the lifeguards.

Bring the sunscreen with you. The UV index is a 9, despite the cloud cover. The lightning threat is moderate, which means thunderstorms are possible.

High tide at Barnegat Inlet will be at 12:25 p.m., followed by low tide at 6:30 p.m.
