Community Pool Possible With Preserved Cedar Creek Campground
Details are still being worked out, but township officials are trying to lease the campground's pool to use for residents.

BERKELEY, NJ — The permanent preservation of Cedar Creek Campground by the county will not only prevent at least 100 homes from being built on the property - it will also provide an exciting benefit to Berkeley residents, according to township officials.
The township and county are in discussions to keep the campground's Olympic-sized swimming pool as a community pool, Council President John Bacchione said at a recent meeting.
Details are slim as negotiations are ongoing, but Bacchione said that the "gorgeous, L-shaped swimming pool" will be able for Berkeley residents to use.

"We still have to work out the details," Bacchione said.
Councilman Jim Byrnes asked if there was a way to bond or otherwise purchase the pool instead of leasing it from Ocean County.

"I'm not selfish, but I don't want it to become a county pool," Byrnes said.
Byrnes also had suggested turning the campground into an equestrian park for autistic children, like they have in Mercer County.
"That's a great piece of property here to have somebody walk a horse around," he said.
Bacchione replied that they really weren't into the details yet.
"We'll keep everybody informed as to how we progress," he said.
