Do You Believe? 9 Alleged UFO Sightings In Bayville
Navy pilots observed UFOs "almost daily" from 2014-15, the New York Times reported. Here are some alleged local sightings through the years.
BERKELEY, NJ — The Jersey Shore's population swells up at certain times of year, but those visitors are terrestrial, as far as we know. Several people have described UFO sightings in Bayville over the years to the National UFO Reporting Center.
The New York Times recently reported that Navy pilots observed unidentified flying objects "almost daily" between 2014-15, including one that resembled a "spinning top moving against the wind." No official explanation exists for the consistent sightings, but a Navy spokesperson told the Times a few of them could have been unlicensed drones.
The NUFORC is an independent organization that's been around since 1974. The group, which has assisted police departments when people report their observations to 911, has put together a list of more than 90,000 sightings around the world. Anyone can submit a potential sighting to NUFORC, but they omit clear jokes and hoaxes.

Here are NUFORC's records on Bayville's alleged UFO sightings through the years:
- 6/15/18, midnight: "I thought it was a star about to shoot and instead it hovered and got close then got smaller like a bright yellow star so after a few hours of this object moving the way it was I grabbed binoculars and saw out line of a strange oval or larger shaped thing with bright yellow lights .. I grabbed my boyfriend to confirm it wasn't."
- 3/15/17, 8 p.m.: Witness was driving on Mill Creek Road in Bayville toward southwest on Route 9 when they saw a star-shaped object brightly shining. The witness went to the store, about 20 minutes roundtrip, and it was gone.
- 1/1/16, 12:10 a.m.: "Just after midnight, went outside to walk my dog. Saw an orange light in the sky, traveling north to south. Usual air traffic is east west. Moving very fast. It passed directly overhead. As I turned around to follow it, I noticed there was a second orange light in front. They didn’t appear to make any noise. (There were fireworks from the New Year’s celebration going on)."
- 3/12/15, 4:30 p.m.: Witness was on the back porch with their wife, saw white, circular objects appearing out of nowhere.
- 1/11/14, 3 a.m.: Strange loud booming noises unknown origin.
- 11/10/12, 7 p.m.: Two red fireballs close by. Then they shot up and disappeared.

- Another instance states "there was a green light that flashed in the sky 3 times last night at 12 o clock and then after it flashed it made a loud noise like a boat horn did anyone else experience this?" This was reportedly on 12/21/11 from Seaside. It is unclear whether these reports come from different witnesses.
- 11/1/10, 10:45 p.m.: "I was driving down Central PKWY and hovering above the trees on the left hand side of the road was what appeared to be a UFO. It had several large white lights and small red blinking ones. It was low enough that I could see it clearly, and it was at a full stop. There was no sound and no other lights or movement. Several others in other cars stopped to look. I came back 15 minutes later and it was gone."
- 12/1/03, 1 p.m.: Three huge fireballs landed by the witness's house. Witness heard a big vibrating sound.
Here's a bonus incident, which allegedly occurred at 1:30 a.m. April 1 in Beachwood. The witness is aware of the coincidence that this occurred on April Fools' Day.

The observer thought he or she saw a meteorite falling in the sky. The witness was laying in bed and saw it through the open window. He or she turned to watch the meteorite and almost vomited when realizing it was frozen in midair.
The witness watched it float around for a minute before it separated into several large pieces. They floated about half a minute. Then the pieces lit up in different colors and illuminated the witness's bedroom. Then everything silently disappeared into nothingness.
