OCEAN CITY, NJ — Jitneys will be driving around Ocean City again this summer.

A contract with the Atlantic City Jitney Association (ACJA) was approved at a recent City Council meeting for 2026 through 2028.

"The ACJA has been the City's provider for this service contract from 2022-2025 and their performance over the years has been beyond satisfactory," City Director of Community Services Daniel Kelchner wrote in the agenda packet. "We are confident that the ACJA can continue to provide a high level of consistency and customer service to our residents and visitors alike in 2026 and beyond.'

The contract maintains the Boardwalk District Loop, which offers evening service. The fare for this loop will remain $3 per rider for a one-way trip. Children aged 5 and under will continue to ride for free on the Boardwalk District Loop.

Significant changes are planned for the Senior Center Shuttle. This service will expand to three days per week, adding one additional service day. The Senior Center Shuttle will also transition from a loop with designated stops to a door-to-door service. This new format is designed to transport seniors aged 60 and over from their homes island-wide to a specific drop-off and pick-up location at the Community Center. The Senior Center Shuttle remains a free service for eligible seniors. Ride reservations can be made by contacting the Senior Center at 609-399-0055.

The ACJA's bid for the Boardwalk District Loop was $55,900. The bid for the Senior Center Loop was $65,800. The total program cost for 2026 is projected to be $121,700. The contract provides Ocean City with flexibility to adjust routes, the number of jitneys in service on a given day, and service times as needed.
