Letter To The Editor: Education, Athletics Experience Will Benefit Central, Candidate Says

Al Aires is a candidate for the Central Regional Board of Education.

Letter to the Editor from Al Aires:

I am running for the Central Regional School District Board of Education because, as a former high school coach, teacher, supervisor, and athletic director, I have the knowledge and experience to make positive improvements in all educational areas. I understand how a school district works, what changes can be made to achieve success, and how to utilize our revenue sources to the fullest extent.

My experience makes me well qualified to initiate innovative revenue and cost-saving measures which will result in a lowering of taxes. I will insist on transparency in all district undertakings. I will work diligently to create a balance between families with school-aged children and our senior citizens. If I am elected, I promise that all voices will be heard because I understand the importance of keeping every member of the community informed of the district’s progress and challenges.

As a 41-year resident of Berkeley Township, I have a vested interest in the quality of our educational system. I am a man with strong family values. I have been married to my wife, Phyllis, for 27 years. Both of us are graduates of Central Regional High School. We have three children, two of whom are also graduates of Central Regional High School and one who is presently enrolled. I earned my B.A. from Temple University and my M.A. from Georgian Court University. I currently work full-time as an Assistant Principal for the Jackson School District. I oversee several departments including literacy and social studies, as well as athletics and physical education.

In addition to my work, I also chair the Marlo Putnam Girls’ Softball Scholarship Committee. My strong athletic background makes me highly suited to oversee these programs, since I have been inducted into the Central Regional Hall of Fame, the Jackson Memorial Hall of Fame as well as three additional Halls of Fame.

As an educator and father, I understand that the educational process goes far beyond academics. It is about students discovering who they are and what they hope to achieve in their lives. It’s about developing the passion they need to follow their dreams. It’s also about the people who help to make those dreams come true. I sincerely understand the importance of having teachers and administrators who believe in their students and who work diligently to help them make their dreams come true.
