Mammography Van Returns To Berkeley Farmers Market

Patients with insurance should bring their information; those without will be seen for no charge but must provide a doctor's name.

BERKELEY, NJ — Women who have been putting off their mammograms can get them done Tuesday in Berkeley Township at the weekly Farmers Market.

The Dr. Jan Astin Mobile Digital Mammography Van operated by Atlantic Medical Imaging Foundation, will be at the farmers market Tuesday, June 25, at the Berkeley Recreation Center, 630 Atlantic City Blvd. (Route 9) in Bayville.

"The Dr. Jan Astin Mobile Digital Mammography Van travels throughout southeastern New Jersey to make breast cancer screening easier and more convenient," said Berkeley Mayor Carmen Amato, in announcing the van's visit.

The van's staff will provide diagnostic screening for women 40 years and older at no cost. If they have insurance they will take what the insurance pays. A prescription is encouraged, but not necessary.

Appointments are encouraged by calling their scheduling department at (609) 677-XRAY (9729) but walk-ins are welcome. Hours of operation are 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Patients who have a prescription for a mammogram should bring it; otherwise they must provide a doctor's name. Patients with insurance should bring their insurance card and photo ID. Patients without insurance will be seen at no charge but they must be 40 years of age or older and must provide a doctor's name.

The custom-built, 38-foot van is completely self-contained. In addition to offering the latest digital mammography equipment, the van provides a comfortable waiting area and a private dressing room. The mobile van’s radiology services are accredited by the American College of Radiology and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. Mammography images are read by board-certified fellowship trained radiologists at Atlantic Medical Imaging.
