Ocean Gate Cuts Mayor's Salary To $1, Demands He Resign
Mayor Paul Kennedy was previously charged with stealing money meant for the borough.

OCEAN GATE, NJ — The Ocean Gate council voted on Wednesday to slash the annual salary of Mayor Paul Kennedy, charged with theft, to $1, according a report by NJ.com.
Kennedy's salary had previously been $50,000. According to NJ.com, the council also unanimously voted to reduce Kennedy's responsibilities and duties to the lowest amount legally possible. The council took a vote of no confidence and demanded Kennedy resign immediately.

Kennedy took thousands of dollars that was meant for the borough of Ocean Gate, including cars auctioned off through GovDeals.com, selling government furniture on Facebook Marketplace and pocketing money from parking meters.

According to NJ.com, Kennedy also worked as a carpenter with the Ocean County Buildings and Grounds Department. He was suspended without pay for this role, where he made $47,170 annually.
As of March 31, Kennedy had not resigned. He is up for reelection in June.
