Relay For Life Berkeley-Lacey Hopes To Surpass $1 Million
The annual event raises funds, honors survivors of cancer and remembers lost loved ones.

BERKELEY, NJ — This could be the year Relay For Life raises $1 million. The Relay For Life of Berkeley-Lacey takes place from noon to 6 a.m. June 8-9 at Veterans Park (9 Tilton Blvd., Berkeley).
This year, the local Relay For Life will combine with the Relay For Life of Southern Ocean County. Event lead Roxanne Stephens told Patch on Tuesday that they're only $25,000 away from the $1 million mark.
Relay For Life raises money for the American Cancer Society and raises awareness through a lengthy fundraising walk. It was first started in 1985 in Washington State by a doctor who sought to raise awareness and funds to fight cancer, Relay for Life now has more than 4 million participants annually in 20 countries.

After dark, Relay participants share an emotional moments when the Luminarias are lit in remembrance of lives touched by cancer. Participants will take a moment of silence to remember their loved ones. Click here to dedicate a Luminaria.
