Seaside Heights Man Who Held Knife To His Throat In Front Of Children Taken Into Custody Without Incident

SWAT team responds to home on Porter Avenue, man surrenders after several hours.

A Seaside Heights man who held a knife to his throat in front of his children eventually surrendered to police after three hours recently, Detective Steven Korman said.

Patrolman Edward Pasieka responded to the 200 block of Porter Avenue on June 16 after a concerned citizen called police and asked for a well-being check, Korman said.

Pasieka found Christopher Viscel, 46, and his two children, ages 3 and 15, in the apartment. Viscel walked into the bathroom, placed a knife to his throat, closed the door, and refused to come out, Korman said.

The children were immediately taken to safety by other officers. Pasieka kept talking to Viscel. Ocean County SWAT Team members also responded. Viscel surrendered to police at 8:35 p.m..

Viscel was taken to police headquarters. No injuries were reported during the incident. Viscel was processed for two warrants, one out of Toms River and one out Toms River, Korman said.
