State Investigating Multiple Major Brush Fires That Impacted Ocean County

Fires burned in Burlington County, but led to traffic detours and road closings in Ocean County, authorities said.

Authorities are asking for the public's help with any information about a series of suspicious major forest fires in the Burlington County area over the spring.

The blazes have burned large forested areas, the most recent of which was a June 12 Woodland Township fire that scorched 357 acres, according to the New Jersey State Park Police Facebook page.

Other suspicious fires include one in Penn State Forest on March 10 that burned 347 acres; one in Wharton State Forest on April 17 that burned 115 acres; and a fire in Bass River State Forest on May 12 that burned 464 acres.

Anyone with information that could help investigators is urged to contact the NJ State Park Police at 609-462-5857, NJ State Police Red Lion at 609-859-2282 or the New Jersey Forest Fire Service at 609-726-9010. All calls will be kept confidential.

Detectives with the New Jersey State Park Police, the New Jersey State Police, fire wardens with the NJ State Forest Fire Service, the New Jersey State Fire Marshal's Office and the Burlington County Fire Marshal's Office are investigating.
