Woman Crashes Car Into Water In Berkeley: Police

The 66-year-old Bayville woman had a medical emergency before her car plunged into the waterway, according to police.

BERKELEY, NJ — A medical emergency caused a Bayville woman to plunge her car into the water in Berkeley, according to police.

The 66-year-old drove her car into the water near Shore Point Marina around 8:15 p.m. on Jan. 30, police said in a news release.

When police arrived, the 2012 Hyundai Santa Fe was about 500 feet into the water, and the driver was sitting on the car's hood, police said.

She was rescued by Bayville firefighters and taken to Community Medical Center by Berkeley EMS, where it was determined that a medical emergency had caused the crash, police said.

The New Jersey State Police Marine Unit responded to the scene of the crash to have the vehicle removed from the waterway, and there are currently no environmental hazards in the area.
