Bernards High School Students Gather to Honor Personal Heroes
Readings from the students' published book, "Reaching Out: Profiles of Those Who Inspire Us."

AP Language and Composition students at Bernards High School are thrilled to be releasing their published book, “Reaching Out: Profiles of Those Who Inspire Us,” funded through a Somerset Hills Education Foundation grant. The book release will take place at Bernardsville Public Library on Monday, June 18 at 6:30 pm. Along with a selection of refreshments and the opportunity to purchase signed copies of the book, the event will consist of Ms. Sky Monroe’s AP students reading a cherished excerpt from their own published profile.
Each of the thirty-two chapters contains one unique story written about a hero that does not necessarily wear a cape. Students have worked the past eight months not only to learn how to write a New Yorker-style profile from the ground up, but to celebrate their own personal heroes. Each student interviewed his or her hero, compiled information, and then wrote, revised, and perfected the writing. Once the chapters were finished, students were able to experience the other end of the publishing process, including marketing, advertising, and designing cover art.
After nearly a year of work, Ms. Monroe’s students are incredibly eager and proud to share their work with friends, family, heroes, and the surrounding community. Their diverse stories fill nearly 200 pages with inspiration, just waiting to be read. Join us to celebrate the hard work of the students and, of course, their heroes, during the book release at the Librarya wonderful opportunity to support local authors in their earliest writing endeavors.
