Book Group to Discuss Katharine Graham Autobiography
The memoir of the first female publisher of a major American newspaper: The Washington Post.

Bernardsville Library’s book group, Saturday Samplers, will meet on Saturday, May 5 at 11:00 am to discuss Katharine Graham's memoir, "Personal Stories" (1997), which won the Pulitzer Prize in 1998.
Graham (1917–2001) was an American publisher and the first female publisher of a major American newspaper. She led her family's newspaper, The Washington Post, for more than two decades, overseeing its most famous period: the Watergate coverage that eventually led to the resignation of President Richard Nixon. The book is a frank, honest and generous book that is both personal and history. It is the story of her parents, of her husband Phil Graham, and of her own life as well as an instructive business history of The Washington Post told from the inside. It is populated with a cast of fascinating characters, from fifty years of presidents and their wives, to the photographer Edward Steichen, the sculptor Constantin Brancusi, Supreme Court Justice Felix Frankfurter and many other politicians and public servants.
Saturday Samplers is a book discussion group dedicated to sampling various kinds of literature, including short stories, nonfiction, new and old novels, and teen fiction. Its goal is to search out interesting, noteworthy, and sometimes overlooked literary and narrative works. No sign-up is needed to join the discussion.
