Children's Book Author Visits Bedminster

Brad Herzog was a guest at the school Tuesday.

Children’s book author Brad Herzog spent Tuesday at Bedminster Township School, talking about his books and reading with the students.

“My experience at Bedminster Township School was great,” he said. “I enjoy visiting schools because it’s an opportunity for me to convey some truths about writing—that it can be fun, that it can take many forms and that it all begins with an exciting idea that deserves to be turned into a story.”

Herzog said he also spends time explaining how important it is to read when he visits schools.

“As an author, that’s a selfish motive,” he said.

Herzog said he has been writing full-time since he graduated from Cornell University in 1990. He began his career as a newspaper sports writer, but has been working as a freelance magazine writer and author since 1992.

In total, Herzog said, he has written national magazine articles and more than 36 books.

“Most of them have been children’s books, including a series of a dozen alphabet books for kids about everything from baseball to the Olympics to protecting the environment,” he said. “But I’ve also written three critically acclaimed American travel memoirs for adults, the latest being a cross-country journey to Ithaca titled ‘Turn Left at the Trojan Horse.’”

Herzog’s next children’s book—a picture book about a golf incident at the 1913 U.S. open—is called “Francis and Eddie” and should be released soon.
