Making Math Magical
Learn how to use the summer to help children catch up or get ahead with math without having it be a boring, stressful chore.

While summer is the perfect time to catch up on math or get ahead, students typically lose 2.6 months of grade level learning in math each summer. On Monday, July 24 at 7:00 pm, Rebecca Zook, a math mastery mentor and joyful learning expert with over 13 years of experience as a thought leader on the cutting edge of math education, will show parents how to use the summer so their children can catch up or get ahead with math without having it be a boring, stressful chore. This program is for parents of students in 4th grade through high school.
In her one-on-one mentoring programs, Ms. Zook teaches creative, passionate, visionary, unique kids, whom she describes as "freaking out, failing, or secretly crying themselves to sleep over math," how to cultivate a growth mindset, transcend the system, and achieve true math mastery. She has had her own private professional math mentoring/tutoring practice, Purple Tutu Math Tutoring, since 2003, and her education writing has been featured on Mashable and covered by Wired magazine and The New York Times.
According to Ms. Zook, in 2009, an Intel survey found most parents would rather talk to their kids about drugs and sex than talk to them about math. Math can be an enormous source of parental anxiety, where even the most math-confident parents can find themselves stuck when it comes to supporting their own child. This talk will provide parents with groundbreaking tools to build and nurture their child’s math confidence, including the difference between perfectionism and mastery; a growth mindset; how to use “negative” emotions to achieve math success; and more. Parents will get tools that they can immediately use at home to ensure math confidence and success.
