Bloomfield Fatal Shooting Is 2nd In As Many Months

BLOOMFIELD, NJ — Authorities are investigating a fatal shooting that took place near Milbank Park in Bloomfield on Monday. The victim, a 43-year-old Bloomfield man, was pronounced dead on the scene.

Bloomfield police officers responded to the area of Milbank Park on North 17th Street around 8:30 a.m. on Monday after receiving a report of a shooting. On arrival, the officers found an “unresponsive” man laying on the sidewalk and suffering from apparent gunshot wounds, according to the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office.

The man – later identified as Aristedes Statiroudis, 43, of Bloomfield - was pronounced dead at the scene at 8:57 a.m.

The Essex County Prosecutor's Office Homicide Task Force and the Bloomfield Police Department are investigating the shooting. Anyone with information can call the Prosecutor's Tips Line at (877) 847-7432.

Bloomfield Director of Public Safety Samuel DeMaio released a statement about the shooting:

“The Bloomfield Police Department is working with the Essex County Prosecutor's Office Homicide Task Force on the homicide which occurred in Milbank Park this morning. While we are still in the very early stages of the investigation, this does not appear to be a random act of violence. The Bloomfield Police will maintain a heavy police presence in the area today, though we see no indication at all that there will be future violence related to this incident. This appears to be an isolated incident.”

Monday’s death was the second fatal shooting in Bloomfield in as many months.

In February, an East Orange man was found dead in his car on Ampere Parkway in Bloomfield after an apparent fatal shooting. Mayor Michael Venezia said that it “was not a random attack and did not involve Bloomfield residents.”
