Bloomfield Man Admits Heroin, Cocaine Distribution Charges: Officials

BLOOMFIELD, NJ — A convicted felon from Bloomfield pleaded guilty to a total of four gun and weapons charges in federal court on Thursday, according to U.S. Attorney Philip R. Sellinger.

Cedric Lewis, 31, admitted to having heroin and cocaine that he planned to sell, and possessing several guns he was not supposed to have, Sellinger said.

Investigators arrested Lewis after seizing a number of firearms and drugs from his home at 21 Lackawanna Plaza in November 2020.

Police said they seized a 9 mm Glock handgun reported stolen out of North Carolina, a .40 caliber Glock handgun, 50 heroin-filled envelopes stamped "Steel City" in red ink, 15.6 grams of crack-cocaine, nine Xanax tablets, $800 in cash and a "variety of drug packaging and processing paraphernalia."

Police had asked the public's help for finding Lewis. They arrested him in December 2020, court records show.

He pleaded guilty to two counts of possession of a firearm and ammunition by a convicted felon and two counts of possession with intent to distribute controlled substances, Sellinger said.

Lewis's sentencing is scheduled for Dec. 6, 2022. His defense counsel is Charles B. McKenna of Morristown, Sellinger said.

For each of the drug offenses, Lewis faces a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison, and a maximum fine of $1 million, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office. The counts of being a felon in possession of a firearm and ammunition each carry a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison, and a maximum fine of $250,000, Sellinger said.
