Thieves Bring Saws To Bloomfield: More Stolen Catalytic Converters
Catalytic converters were recently stolen from several cars in Bloomfield during a four-day crime wave in the township, police said.
BLOOMFIELD, NJ — Catalytic converters were recently stolen from several cars in Bloomfield during a four-day crime wave in the township, authorities announced Thursday.
Thefts of the expensive car parts have been on the rise in Bloomfield and several other Essex County towns, as well as the state as a whole.

Last week, thieves again hit Bloomfield, stealing catalytic converters from vehicles near Garrabrant and Raab avenues, Grove Street and Floyd Avenue, Overlook Terrace and Parkview Drive, Claremont Place and Newell Drive, East Passaic Avenue and Beekman Street, and Darling and East Passaic avenues. An attempted theft was also reported on Hoover Avenue.

The Bloomfield Police Department released the following details about each theft:
June 19 – “Officers responded to the area of Garrabrant Avenue and Raab Avenue on reports of catalytic converter thefts. Three complainants all had their vehicles parked on the street overnight and upon returning to them the following morning, they noticed the catalytic converters were missing. These incidents are under investigation.”

June 20 – “Officers responded to the area of Grove Street and Floyd Avenue on report of a catalytic converter theft. A resident called police after hearing power tools and observing sparks coming from a vehicle on the street. An unknown male and a dark sedan were also observed near two parked vehicles. Further inspection by officers revealed that one vehicle was missing its catalytic converter, and an unsuccessful attempt was made to steal the catalytic converter from a second vehicle. This incident is under investigation.”
June 21 – “Officers responded to the area of Overlook Terrace and Parkview Drive on report of a catalytic converter theft. A resident parked his vehicle on the street overnight and upon returning to it the following morning, he noticed the catalytic converter was missing. This incident is under investigation.”
June 21 – “Officers responded to the area of Claremont Place and Newell Drive on report of a catalytic converter theft. A resident parked his vehicle on the street overnight, and upon returning to it the following morning, he noticed the catalytic converter was missing. This incident is under investigation.”
June 21 – “Officers responded to the area of East Passaic Avenue and Beekman Street on report of a catalytic converter theft. At approximately 2:18a.m., a resident observed a white BMW sedan parked near his vehicle and heard a saw being used. The complainant then immediately called the police. Further inspection by officers revealed that the catalytic converters were removed from two vehicles at the location. This incident is under investigation.”
June 22 – “Officers responded to the area of Darling Avenue and East Passaic Avenue on report of a catalytic converter theft. The complainant parked his vehicle on the street on June 18, and when he returned to it on June 22, he noticed that the catalytic converter was missing. This incident is under investigation.”
June 22 – “Officers responded to the 100-block of Hoover Avenue on a report of an attempted catalytic converter theft. The complainant noticed that the catalytic converter on his vehicle was cut on one side and hanging off, but not fully removed. This incident is under investigation.”
