The Secret Life Of Bricktown Bargains

There is a mecca of shopping in Brick, some virtual and some brick and mortar. Shopping has never been more fun! Hold on to your hats!!

Everyone loves a bargain. I have come to realize that shopping is a journey that simply never ends for most of us. I mean think about it, it is a national pastime and for most of us we like it that way! Imagine yourself sitting at home and the impulse grabs you to go shopping....It's a physical impulse that you just can't control!! "I have got to see what new things Marshalls has, I have my Kohls cash that's expiring". Is it not the hunt for that illusive bargain, or the ultimate find, that spurs us to find that holy grail item"!! Whatever the reason there is no end in sight! And if you are like me, finding things "dirt cheap" is a prerequisite. It is a must if you are going to shop and still pay your bills! My friends use to refer to me as the "Wholesale Queen of the Universe". Back in the day, during my years working a grown up job, I also used to sell jewelry. Diamonds and gold and silver, “oh my”! I worked for a family friend who would take me into New York and show me the world of the Diamond District. From there I learned the world of wholesale purchasing. And I used that experience as a springboard to buy everything I could possibly find wholesale. The possibilities and acquisitions were endless. It has taught me how to acquire things in life at a reduced price while still being able to maintain my ability to survive financially.

And as a result of the Internet and the incredible sources available at our fingertips, almost anything is attainable.

Most of us are on Facebook or at least know people that are. Which is where my favorite place to shop is located. It's called the "Marketplace". It is a repository of things for sale used and new. It’s designed so the items you are shopping for can be set within the desired radius you are willing to travel. So if you live in Brick, you can set up a radius from 05,10,15,....50 miles, which will include items for sale within those parameters. All depends how far you are interested in driving!

The Marketplace is a gold mine...everything and anything is posted on there for sale. You can also sell your own items as well. Take pictures, upload, write a description and boom….you are on your way to a virtual audience looking at your item/items. The majority of things for sale include household items, cars, homes, boats, almost anything you can imagine. The prices are "dirt cheap", and my other favorite word "negotiable"! I will warn you it is highly addictive considering there are many things on there you didn't know you needed until you see it... You can either meet someone at their home, or yours, or go to a central meeting place to conclude the purchase/sale. I've met the greatest people through this site!!

In addition to the marketplace there are many Brick town groups posted on Facebook as well. These groups are similar to the marketplace and may actually cross over. Some of the Brick Town Groups are listed below. They are easy to join, simply search the name of local groups and request to join:

In addition to the market place and Facebook groups there is also our newest Good Will store in Brick. I travel to Florida alot and they have amazing Good Will stores. However, the Brick store is a fantastic store with goodies galore! I love donating to this store as your donations are tax deductible. There are great household items, clothing and furniture to be found here. My girlfriend and her teenagers have a great time picking out clothes that are at the mall for 10 times more money!! I got ski pants for my son and hubby for $5 this past Winter!

Another up-and-coming thrift shop is the Black Sheep Thrift shop. They were located on Mantoloking Rd but just moved to Toms River. They have a very relaxed clothing policy if you are interested in selling clothes. They do not require a designer label which is almost unheard of in "boutique consignment". I bought a ping pong table full sized for my son at Christmas there last year for $50. Great store, great people!
