SOMERSET/UNION COUNTIES, NJ — Making plans to check out fireworks and celebrations for the holiday weekend? The National Weather Service is predicting a few showers but overall a good weekend for celebrations and fireworks.

Check out the weather forecast and a listing of all local fireworks in the Somerset and Union counties area.

  • Today: A chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly after 4 p.m.. Partly sunny, with a high near 92. Southwest wind 7 to 13 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30 percent. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.
  • Tonight: A chance of showers before 8 p.m., then a slight chance of showers after 3 a.m. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 72. Southwest wind 3 to 8 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30 percent. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible.
  • Saturday: Scattered showers and thunderstorms, mainly after 11 a.m. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 87. South wind 7 to 15 mph. Chance of precipitation is 40 percent. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.
  • Saturday Night: Showers and thunderstorms likely before 11 p.m., then showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm between 11 p.m. and 2 a.m., then isolated showers and thunderstorms after 2 a.m. Some of the storms could produce heavy rain. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 70. South wind 5 to 10 mph becoming light southwest after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 70 percent. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.
  • Sunday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 88. West wind 5 to 9 mph.

Saturday, July 1

Hillsborough: The Hillsborough Independence Day Celebration and fireworks will be held on Saturday, July 1 at 5 p.m. at Auten Road Intermediate School. The celebration will include an afternoon and evening of entertainment, family fun and a food tent followed by Hillsborough's Fireworks show at night. Roselle Park: The Borough of Roselle Park presents the 12th Annual Fireworks on Saturday, July 1 from 6 to 10 p.m. with fireworks at dusk at Roselle Park High School, Greens Acres Complex. CLICK HERE for more information.

Scotch Plains: The Township of Scotch Plains announced that it will be hosting its second annual Independence Day Fireworks Celebration on Saturday, July 1. The fireworks will be held at the Scotch Hills Golf Course at 820 Jerusalem Road in Scotch Plains. Residents can begin entering the park at 7 p.m. and the fireworks show will start at dusk. A rain date is in place for Sunday, July 2, in the event of inclement weather. CLICK HERE for more information.

Monday, July 3

Franklin: Franklin Township's Independence Celebration will be on Monday, July 3 from 6 to 10 p.m. Fireworks will be at 9:15 p.m. at the Municipal Building, 475 DeMott Lane, Somerset. (Rain date July 7). CLICK HERE for more information.

New Providence: The New Providence Independence Day Celebration returns to the borough on Monday, July 3, on South Street from Gales Drive to Springfield Avenue, and will include fun filled activities for all. The event begins at 7 p.m. and the fireworks will begin at approximately 9:30 p.m. CLICK HERE for more information.

Rahway: Rahway's Independence Day Fireworks will be displayed behind Rahway City Hall at 9 p.m. on Monday July 3. The best viewing areas will be along Main and Irving St. in the downtown area. Rain Date will be on Thursday July 6 in conjunction with our free movies on City Hall Plaza event. For more information call 732-669-3600.

Tuesday, July 4

Bridgewater: The Somerset County Parks Commission will host its Independence Day Family Festival on July 4 with food, fireworks and fun in Bridgewater. The free event is from 6 to 10 p.m. and will be held at North Branch Park in Bridgewater. Fireworks begin around 9:30 p.m. CLICK HERE for more information.

Cranford: A fireworks display will be the highlight of Cranford’s Annual Fourth of July Celebration on Tuesday, July 4. The day-long community festival will offer something for everyone including canoe races, a one-mile fun run and a four-mile run, plus vendors in the park. There will also be amusement rides and games. It will run from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. and the fireworks will begin at 9:15 p.m. at Nomahegan Park, Cranford. CLICK HERE for more information.

Clark: Clark's Independence Day Celebration will held on Tuesday, July 4 at the Arthur L. Johnson High School in Clark. The event will start at 7 p.m. where attendees can enjoy food, ice cream and music while shopping novelty vendors. Fireworks will be at around 9:15 p.m. CLICK HERE for more information.

Mountainside: This annual event is held at Our Lady of Lourdes fields on Tuesday, July 4 at 7 p.m. Although the fireworks begin at dusk, there is a DJ, snacks as well as giveaways. This event is done in conjunction with the Town and Fire Company. CLICK HERE for more information.

Union: Union Township will host the 4th of July Concert & Fireworks on Tuesday, July 4 from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. at Winslow Avenue and Vauxhall Road. CLICK HERE for more information.

Summit: The City of Summit 70th annual Fourth of July Celebration will take place on Tuesday, July 4 at Soldiers Memorial Field, located at 5 Myrtle Ave. The daylong celebration will include entertainment, rides and amusements, as well as an expanded food truck festival. The day will begin with the Flag Raising Ceremony at 9:45 a.m. and continue until 1 p.m., when Memorial Field will close for setup for evening activities.
