BRIDGEWATER, NJ — Only three months after opening their South Asian decor business at the Bridgewater Commons, Sandhya and her son Yajur Monga are already expanding to open a storefront in a larger space.

Lotus Hand Crafted Art Decor is moving from a cart on the mall's lower level to a larger store on the second floor next to Fogo de Chao. Their store shares beautiful artwork highlighting their Indian culture.

Yajur Monga told Patch they plan to open by April but may hit some delays in shipping.

"It is quite exciting with the store opening now. We began in November with really just an idea and we were not really sure how our products would be perceived by the community. Now we look back and we see everything has moved so fast, and it is hard to believe that we have a store opening in a few months," Yajur Monga said.

Since they opened they have expanded their variety, but are still limited by their current space.

"With the new store, we can offer a much larger variety such as furniture and paintings. These are all handmade as well, but they can not be displayed in our current setting. We want to give customers a better experience and increase our awareness through our new store," said Yajur Monga.

Many of the products for sale are produced from wood, brass, and stone. Lotus also features Dhokra Art, a lost wax casting technique that is only present in three or four small tribes and villages.

Sandhya previously noted that each piece of art is intricately made by hand and handpainted. They take months to create and no piece is exactly the same.

Products include paintings, stone turtles, Buddha statues, decorative boxes, and many other art pieces using small stones and paint.
