Foot Chase Leads To Arrest, Discovery Of Loaded Gun And Bullets In Raritan

RARITAN, NJ — A Raritan man was arrested on weapons charges following a foot chase through the Borough on St. Patrick's Day, said Raritan Borough Chief of Police Thomas Fisher.
Kesanni McCreary, 22, of Raritan, was charged with second-degree unlawful possession of a weapon, two counts of fourth-degree possession of a large capacity ammunition magazine, and fourth-degree obstruction of law.
On Tuesday at 1:53 p.m., a Raritan Patrol Officer saw McCreary fail to use a crosswalk on Anderson Street in the area of Sherman Avenue.

The officer approached McCreary in her patrol vehicle and asked him to stop.
As the officer tried to stop McCreary, he began running away on Fifth Street towards North Second Avenue, said Fisher.

McCreary was caught by patrol officers in a park between North Second Avenue and First Avenue.
Several witnesses told officers they saw McCreary throwing items as he was running, said Fisher.
Raritan Officers, along with the Somerset County Sheriff’s K-9, searched the route where McCreary had been running and found a loaded Ruger handgun with a large capacity magazine.
Officers also found an additional large capacity magazine in the area, said Fisher.
McCreary was remanded to the Somerset County Jail pending a Superior Court detention hearing.
