Motorcyclist Airlifted To Hospital After Route 202 Crash In Raritan

This is the third serious crash involving motorcycles on Route 202 in Somerset County in the past two months.

RARITAN, NJ — A motorcyclist in serious condition was airlifted to a local hospital following a crash at the Route 202 and First Avenue intersection in Raritan on Thursday night.

On Sept. 14 at 4:25 p.m., a 21-year-old Stockton man was driving his motorcycle on Route 202 North when he crashed with a Honda Civic, being driven by a 55-year-old Bridgewater woman, who was driving south on First Avenue, said Raritan Police Sgt. Everett Holt.

The driver of the motorcycle was ejected from his motorcycle and he sustained serious injuries as a result. The motorcyclist was taken to a local area trauma center by a New Jersey State Police Helicopter in serious condition.

A preliminary investigation found that the driver of the motorcycle ran a red light at the intersection.

As a result of the accident the right lane of Route 202 North and a portion of First Ave was closed for several hours.

Anyone with information related to the crash is advised to contact the Raritan Borough Police Department at (908)725-6700.

Along with Raritan Police, other agencies responded including the Bridgewater Police Department, Somerset County Prosecutor's Office, Raritan Borough Fire Department, RWJ Somerset Emergency Services and the New Jersey State Police.

This is the third serious crash involving a motorcycle in the past two months on Route 202 in Somerset County.
