Watch Out For Phone Scammers Posing As Bridgewater Police, Demanding Money

Several residents reported getting calls from the Bridgewater Police requesting bail payment or payment due to a missed court appearance.

BRIDGEWATER, NJ — Bridgewater Township Police are warning residents to watch out for phone scammers pretending to be police and demanding money.

Several Bridgewater residents reported receiving telephone calls from the Bridgewater Police requesting bail payment or payment due to a missed court appearance, according to police.

"We want to remind you, no legitimate government agency will ask or demand money for services, especially in the form of gift cards," said police.

Anyone who receives an unsolicited phone call from a person claiming to be a Bridgewater Police Officer asking for money or gift cards is asked to get the caller's name and disconnect the phone call.

Then, call the Bridgewater Police Department directly at 908-722-4111 to verify the call was legitimate.

"NEVER give personal information over the phone, by fax, through the mail, or on the Internet unless you have initiated the contact or you are sure you know who you are dealing with," said police.
