A severe afternoon thunderstorm is predicted to impact the area bringing large hail, damaging wind, and heavy rain.

SOMERSET COUNTY, NJ — A severe thunderstorm watch has been issued for Somerset County on Monday due to the potential of large hail, damaging winds, and heavy rain.

The severe thunderstorm watch is in effect from now through 8 p.m. Monday.

Multiple schools in the area including Hillsborough, Warren, Immaculate Conception School in Somerville, and Montgomery Township School District have either dismissed students early or canceled all afternoon and evening activities.

Monday Afternoon: Showers and thunderstorms likely, then showers and possibly a thunderstorm after 4 p.m. Some storms could be severe, with large hail, damaging winds, and heavy rain. High near 78. South wind around 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80 percent. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.

Monday Night: Showers and thunderstorms, mainly before 8 p.m. Some of the storms could be severe. Low around 55. West wind 5 to 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80 percent. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.
