Tesla Crashes, Catches Fire On Route 22 In Somerset County
Green Brook and Dunellen volunteer firefighters came out to help extinguish the early morning fire.
GREEN BROOK, NJ — Firefighters battled a car fire on Route 22 early Monday morning after it ignited from a crash.
At 4:52 a.m., a Tesla Y model car ran off Route 22 East and crashed into a retail store sign located right after the Washington Avenue intersection, said Green Brook Captain Daniel Lanzafama.
The car then caught fire and Green Brook Volunteer Fire Company and Dunellen Defender Fire Company #1 helped to put out the fire.

Two specialty electric car fire nozzles were used to help extinguish the fire and cool the electric vehicle batteries, which are located underneath the vehicle, according to Green Brook Volunteer Fire Company.
The driver was the only person in the car and suffered minor injuries, said Lanzafama.

The crash is still under investigation.
Volunteer firefighting members are needed in Green Brook and all training is free.
