CALDWELL, NJ — There’s been an uptick of car thefts and burglaries in the Caldwell area, and there’s a common link, police say: unlocked doors.

On Wednesday evening, the Caldwell Police Department issued the following advisory:

“Please remember to always lock all of the doors to your motor vehicle and DO NOT leave your key fobs/keys inside of the vehicle. There has been an uptick in motor vehicle burglaries/thefts in our area due to vehicles being left unlocked.”

“Also, please do not leave any valuables in plain view inside the vehicle, and report all suspicious activity to the Caldwell Police Department via 9-1-1,” authorities added.
