The West Essex Art Association is proud to announce the start of their 2012-2013 season with a watercolor demonstration by West Caldwell artist, Marilyn Rose. The date is September 12, 2012 at 8pm. The meeting and demo will be held at 459 Passaic Avenue West Caldwell, NJ 07006(973) 276-6700 on the lower level in the activities room.
Marilyn paints landscapes, figures, portraits, florals and still lifes, street scenes, but she excels at painting en plein air. "En plein air" is a French expression which means "in the open air", and is particularly used to describe the act of painting outdoors. It's not easy and takes years to master. Marilyn will be painting a watercolor portrait from a live model as the demo.
Marilyn, a NJ resident, is a signature member of the Northeast Watercolor Society, New Jersey Watercolor Society (Membership Chair), and the Baltimore Watercolor Society. Her paintings have won numerous awards in statewide and national exhibitions, and are in private collections across the country. Her illustrations have appeared in national magazines. She frequently demos and gives workshops for state and regional organizations. Marilyn grew up in Chicago, and earned her BFA from Washington University in St. Louis as a Fred Conway Fine Arts Fellow, & continued her studies at New York’s School of Visual Arts.
This has been a busy summer for Marilyn as she has been doing many juried Plein Aire events, having won an honorable mention at the Wayne, Pennsylvania event, and the Grand Prize at the Billsboror Winery Event in Geneva NY. She has had work juried into the Cathariine Lorillard Wolfe Arts Club (at the National Arts Club in NY), The Northeast Watercolor Society at the Kent Art Gallery and was invited to be part of a group show entitled “Fresh” at the Traillworks Gallery in Newton, New Jersey. Her work will also be hanging in the gallery at Congregation Shomrei Emunah this fall.
