A NEW LOOK FOR THE BUSIEST
INTERSECTION IN CHATHAM TOWNSHIP

Update Reflects Renewal, Growth & New
Challenges

Things are looking a
little different at the five-corner intersection of Fairmount Avenue, Southern
Boulevard and Buxton Road in Chatham Township.
This bustling intersection is shared by two distinguishing landmarks:
the Chatham Township Historical Museum (“the Little Red Schoolhouse”) and the
Chatham Church of Christ.

For more than 45 years
the Chatham Church of Christ at 382 Fairmount Avenue has maintained a sign
facing this crossroads, but an updated sign reflects the addition of the
Northern New Jersey Church of Christ. This is a Korean-speaking congregation that
now shares the building with the English-speaking church. Both congregations operate
out of the same facility although at different times for worship and Bible
classes.

“Evangelizing in our
metropolitan area often means proclaiming the gospel in several languages.
Sharing our building helps extend and build up God's spiritual house literally
to people of all nationalities,” said Chatham Church of Christ preacher Bob
Weber.  Wayne Felts, a church elder said,
“So far everything has worked well. I'm happy to say that some of the Korean
children have integrated into our Sunday School classes learning about the Word
of God and the English language at the same time.”

This is not the first
time the Chatham Church has overcome a language barrier to share the message of
Christ.  In 1980 the Chatham congregation
helped to establish a Chinese-language church in Flushing, Queens, and over the
last twelve years they have often contributed to a Portuguese-speaking
congregation in Newark, which has also added a Spanish worship.

The Church of Christ at 382 Fairmount Avenue in Chatham Township accepts
the Bible as the Word of God and believes that it was meant to be read by all
Christians for their learning and spiritual growth.
