Breathalyzers At Student Activities OK'd By Chatham School District

Board of education approves measure as 'underage drinking deterrent,' report says.

CHATHAM - While the Chatham School District has had a policy in place for seven years allowing school officials to randomly screen students for alcohol use at school-related events, the Board of Education has gone one step further.

At its Monday night meeting, the school board approved the implementation and use of a Passive Breath Alcohol Sensor Device, or breathalyzer, to be used at random during Chatham School District extracurricular events.

The new policy is effective immediately, but the district still needs to order the devices, according to nj.com.
