CHATHAM, NJ - Shortly before the executive session of Monday's School District of the Chathams Board of Education meeting, Board Member Mary Chambers announced her resignation.

Citing a career advancement for her husband, Chambers, a resident of Chatham Township, said her family would leaving be New Jersey and that her resignation was effective immediately.

Because the School District of the Chathams is made of residents Chatham Borough and Chatham Township, it falls to the Chatham Township members of the school board to choose her replacement.
The Chatham Township members of the Chatham Board of Education responsible for the selection process are Vice President Matt Gilfillan and members Sal Arnuk, Michelle Clark and Lata Kenney. Those four members of the Board of Education that represent Chatham Township will be responsible for interviewing and selecting the best candidate to fill the vacancy for one year.

Any Chatham Township resident interested in applying to fill the vacancy for the final year of service as a member of the Board of Education should contact the Board at boemember@chatham-nj.org.

School District of the Chathams Board President Jill Weber said that the school board is thankful for Chambers work.

"Teamwork is essential for success and Mary Chambers exemplified her desire for success in everything she took on as a member of the Chatham Board of Education," Weber told Patch. "Most recently, Mary served on the Curriculum and Personnel committees and always challenged everyone to do better. We are thankful for Mary’s hard work and dedication as a member of the Board of Education and wish her and her family well as they begin the next chapter of their lives."
