Chatham 12U Baseball Team Competes in Cooperstown
Chatham reached the Round of 16 against teams from around North America.
Chatham's U12A summer baseball team just completed a 5 day baseball tournament at Cooperstown All Star Village in Oneonta, NY. The team made a lifetime worth of baseball and cultural memories and visited the Hall of Fame. They competed against teams from the Dominican Republic, Canada, Utah, Illinois, Ohio, Georgia and California. The team achieved a 4-2 record in pool play and earned the 12 seed out of 32 teams. They won their first playoff game and then lost 5-4 in the sweet sixteen round to a team from Northern California.
Andrew Bergman led the team with 4 home runs, Tommy Dempsey hit 3 including a grand slam, Kyle McClintock had 2, and Ryan Drum, Ethan Fifer, Nick Knezovic, Ben Krill and Gavin Glasgow had 1 each.
Other highlights: Luke Fekete tore up the base paths and turned 4 double plays. Mac Clark pitched brilliantly and notched a win and a save. Tyler Cook pitched his team to a win and blasted a 3-run hit in the teams playoff victory. Drew Mitzak swung a hot bat and had several big 2-out RBI's. Ryan Krill hit and fielded well all week including a dramatic leaping catch in CF versus the DR that brought the house down.
Strong pitching performances came from Gavin Glasgow, Ben Krill, Andrew Bergman, Mac Clark, Tyler Cook, Nick Knezovic, Ryan Krill and Kyle McClintock. Defensive standouts were Ethan Fifer and Luke Fekete with stellar infield and outfield play, and Ryan Drum and Drew Mitzak who shared catching duties.
