“Chatham Chapters” - A New, Intergenerational Book Club!

I’m writing to support, publicize and encourage everyone to participate in “Chatham Chapters,” a new intergenerational book club, designed to bring together members of our community – and residents of other surrounding areas – through the shared, universal love of language and great books.

“Chatham Chapters” is the brainchild of Sadie LeMon, a lifelong Chatham resident and senior at Chatham High School, who has created this terrific new outreach opportunity for her Girl Scout Gold Award Project, titled “Literary Bridges.” Sadie bonded with her grandmother over books, and now she’s trying to pay forward that experience, by creating inroads for meaningful connections.

At the inaugural meeting of “Chatham Chapters held in mid-October,” Sadie’s passion for books was clear, as she led a small but mighty group through as spirited discussion about Brit Bennett’s book “The Vanishing Half,” a fascinating tale of separated twin sisters. I was thrilled to be there and to see Sadie position herself as a catalyst, focused on jump starting multigenerational relationships and friendships. However, to realize the full power of her vision, Sadie needs more of us to step up and take this journey together.

I’m encouraging everyone to do their part to help build stronger community connections through a shared love of books, by attending the next session of “Chatham Chapters, which will be held on Saturday, November 16 from 1 – 2 pm, ET in the Women’s’ Club Room at the Library of the Chathams. The discussion will center around “Little Bee,” by Chris Cleave, a New York Times’ bestselling book that follows the intertwined lives of two very different women and focuses on the importance of identity.
