Chatham School Board Wants More Info on Possible Election Move

District is one of only two in Morris County to still vote on candidates, budget in April.

As one of the two remaining school districts in Morris County, and just one of 14 in the state to still have April elections, the Chatham Board of Education is rethinking its course.

At its regular meeting this week, the school board brought the topic back up for discussion and asked business administrator Peter Daquila to provide the group with pros and cons of moving the annual election, nj.com reported.

In 2012 Governor Chris Christie enacted legislation that would allow school boards to move their elections to coincide with municipal ballots in November. If a school board chose to do so, the public would not vote on the district’s budget as long as it stayed below a 2-percent tax levy increase year-over-year.
