Chatham Students Awarded National Merit Scholarships
Congratulations Katherine T. Purschke, Alexandra M. Lynch, Nishita Sinha, and Yulan Zhang!

CHATHAM, NJ — Four Chatham High School students were awarded National Merit Scholarships. Katherine T. Purschke, Alexandra M. Lynch, Nishita Sinha, and Yulan Zhang were awarded the scholarship for outstanding academic potential.
They are part of the first round of winners in the 62nd annual national Merit Scholarship Program, which awards corporate and foundation sponsored scholarships to over 1,000 high school students.
Purschke intends to pursue a career in consulting. Citizen Watch Company of America, a watch manufacturer, sponsored Purschke's award.

Lynch has not yet declared a major or intended field. Metropolitan Life Insurance Company sponsored Lynch’s ward, which is awarded to children of MetLife employees.
Sinha plans to enter electrical engineering and Zhang wants to pursue computer science. Both of their awards were sponsored by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation's own funds.

To be considered for a scholarship, students had to complete a detailed application, which included an essay, information about extracurricular activities, a school official recommendation and high SAT scores.
