Chatham Students Get Bullying Lesson From Prosecutor

Morris County Prosecutor's Office shared bias crime and internet safety info with middle schoolers.

CHATHAM, NJ - Framing bias crimes and internet safety so it is appropriate for young teens was the task of the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office on Wednesday as they visited 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students at Chatham Middle School.

Supervising Assistant Prosecutor Samantha DeNegri and Detective Supervisor Patrick LaGuerre of the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office provided an educational assembly that focused on bias crimes, incidents, and internet safety.

“The Morris County Prosecutor’s Office is proud to continue working with educators throughout Morris County in providing these young men and women with the necessary information to succeed early on in their lives," Morris County Prosecutor Fredric Knapp said.

The students were instructed on the importance of safe internet usage, the punishments that can stem from committing a cyber-crime, and the differences between a bias crime and a bias incident.

The morning was divided into three sessions, with each grade receiving their own presentation in order to provide every student with the opportunity to raise questions throughout the program.
