Chatham Township Is Already “Balanced” Across Political Parties

Whoever wins the 5th seat for Chatham Township Committee this Election Day, Chatham residents should feel great about the fact that the government is well-balanced and run by representatives from all political parties.

Our 5 elected committee members work together as our main legislative body, liaising with a variety of volunteers on subcommittees, boards and commissions. Boards have their own legislative power while subcommittees typically serve an advisory role supporting the Township Committee. Numerous volunteers put their passion and experience front and center to help the town function at a high level - checking their political affiliation at the door.

Prompted by my opponent’s outcry for “balance,” I have discovered that there are 25 Republicans, 21 Democrats and 8 Independents giving their time and attention to our Township on these critical boards and subcommittees:

• Planning Board
• Zoning Board of Adjustments
• Board of Health
• Library Board of Trustees
• Environmental Commission
• Open Space Committee
• Chatham Joint Recreation Committee
• Colony Pool Committee

We are lucky to have so many volunteers step forward and lead. I do not want to politicize their work, but rather emphasize the balanced team in place and the intellectual diversity that exists on our subcommittees and boards.

If elected, I look forward to continuing the tradition of engaging with a variety of residents volunteering in our government and listening to members from all political parties and backgrounds.
