Drug, Alcohol Incidents Down In Chatham Schools

CHATHAM, NJ — Drug and alcohol related incidents are down in the School District of the Chathams, according to new information released by the state Department of Education.

The data is released annually, and tallies how many incidents happen in each school district. The data released this month is for the 2016-2017 school year.

There were five fewer substance-related incidents in the district in 2016-2017 than compared to the previous year. Only three incidents were reported in the district last school year.

The district had some of the lowest rates of incidents in the county. Several other districts also reported just three incidents, while the district with the most (Morris School District), reported 42.

The state Department of Education has cautioned that these numbers are reported by each district, so each jurisdiction is responsible for reporting its results fairly and accurately. But they are required by law to report them.
