Eidul Adha

Muslims celebrate Eidul Adha after Hajj performance. It is celebrated to remember Prophet Abraham great sacrifice

Eidul Adha is celebrated by Muslims all over the world in remembrance of the exceptional and incomparable surrender of Prophet Abraham when he was ready to sacrifice his beloved son Prophet Ishmael in obedience to God. This willingness reminds us to be ready to sacrifice our most adored things for the cause of faith. God’s commandment should be our top priority.

Abraham’s wife, Hajra desperately searched for water for her son. There was no one to help except God and help came in the form of a spring. This strengthens our trust in God Almighty that if we seek out for His help, He is always there.

Prophet Abraham is also known as the father of all prophets. Since the day of his great sacrifice, God has commanded the Muslims to remember it by sacrificing an animal. Although the story of Abraham’s sacrifice is narrated in both the Bible and the Qur’an it is only the Muslims who have been following the tradition of animal sacrifice. However, God says in the Qur’an that it is not the animal sacrifice that reaches Him but the righteousness of His people (22:38).
