Honorable Mention In New York Times Essay Contest For Chatham HS Senior

Congratulations Eric Davis!

CHATHAM, NJ — A Chatham High School senior was given an Honorable Mention in a New York Times essay writing contest for his editorial on race-based admissions practices.

Eric Davis, 18, was honored for his editorial, "Colleges Should Abandon Race-Based Affirmative Action to Achieve True Diversity." He was one of 7,895 high school students to submit 450 words or less about something they were passionate about. This was the contest's fourth year. (You can read more about the contest here.)

“As an aspiring engineering student, I was completely surprised to see that my writing - of all things - was recognized as outstanding. I've never really given myself the chance to explore my capabilities in the humanities outside of the classroom, and to be recognized by one of the most influential publications in the world was quite the honor," Davis to TapInto.
