Pedestrian Killed By Reckless Driver In Morris Co. Suburb, Police Say
The crash left a 54-year-old pedestrian dead, police said.
MORRIS COUNTY, NJ — A Morris County man has been arrested following a fatal crash from last month, prosecutors said.
Matthew Vining, 29, of Chatham Township, has been charged for his role in a crash last month that resulted in the death of a pedestrian, according to authorities.
On Jan. 2, around noon, police were called to Fairmount Avenue in Chatham Borough on reports that someone had been hit by a car.

Authorities discovered that Vining, driving a Ford F-150, hit a pedestrian while headed south on Fairmount Avenue, police said.
The pedestrian, 54, was rushed to the Morristown Medical Center, where they were pronounced dead five days later. Prosecutors are not revealing the deceased’s identity at this time.

Following an investigation into the crash, Vining was charged with reckless vehicular homicide on Wednesday. He also faces several motor vehicle offenses.
He was released on pre-trial monitoring and is scheduled to appear in court on March 23.
"While nothing can undo the loss suffered by the victim’s family and our community, we remain committed to thoroughly investigating all serious motor vehicle crashes and, when the evidence supports allegations of distracted or reckless driving, holding unsafe drivers accountable for their actions,” said Chatham Borough Police Chief Brian Gibbons in a statement.
