Mariners Hit the Road for NJ YMCA Silver Championships Success

Madison Area YMCA Mariners swim team competes at NJ YMCA Silver Championships

Almost thirty Madison Mariner swimmers made the trek to the Gloucester County Institute of Technology in Sewell, New Jersey, to compete at the three-day NJ YMCA Silver Championships on February 16-18.

In the teenage divisions, the winning combination of Anya D’Costa (15), Kaley Snarr (15), Sarah Dougherty (16), and Hannah Corcoran (16) took 11th place in the 15-18 400 free relay with a time of 3:56.12. Kaley Snarr also took 4th place in the 13-18 1650 freestyle event with a time of 19:18.53.

In the 11-12 year old category, teammates Mary Gillen (11), Alison Barton (12), Katelyn Hoffelder (11), and Fiona Beacom (12) turned in a 7th place finish in the 11-12 200 free relay with a time of 1:57.60. Fiona Beacom also placed 4th in the 11-12 100 breast with a time of 1:21.48. Mary Gillen placed 7th in the 11-12 200 IM with a time of 2:34.09.

Those swimmers in the 10 and under category also had strong performances. Emily Houng (10), Riley Snarr (10), Grace Mulligan (10), and Chloe Thorn Leeson (9) took 5th place in the 9-10 medley relay with a time of 2:33.30 and 6th place in the 9-10 200 free relay with a time of 2:16.39. Emily Houng also took 3rd place in 9-10 50 fly with a time of 36.5 and 10th place in the 9-10 100 fly in 1:29.97. Riley Snarr took 12th place in the 9-10 50 back at a time of 38.74. Chloe Thorn Leeson also placed 4th in 9-10 50 free at a time of 32.75, while Grace Mulligan finished 5th in 9-10 100 breast in 1:35.12. In addition, Maeve Kelly (9) took 9th place in the 9-10 100 free at a time of 1:14.0.

Teammates Anuthra Abeysinghe (10), Trevor Ledon (9), Dylan DeCicco (10), and Tirian Chang (9) took 13th place in the 9-10 200 medley relay with a time of 2:52.59. Tirian Chang also took 8th place in the 9-10 200 IM with a time of 3:01.33 and 11th place in the 9-10 100 back at 1:24.24.

Other swimmers who had a good showing at the event included: Amanda Beneventano, Emily Brown, Ransom Chang, Jimmy Dougherty, Brendan Fowler, Gianna Latorre, James Lord, Gwen Lukasavage, Declan Robertson and Jule Schaefer.
