Mathiasen and Hay’s Responsible Governing is What the Borough Needs

Longtime Chatham Borough resident backs counci candidates, citing strong leadership in finance, low taxes, and environmental initiatives

As a 28 year resident of Chatham Borough, I am excited to support Jocelyn Mathiasen and Kate Hay for election to the Chatham Borough Council.

I have been involved in the Borough in various capacities over many years (including a brief stint as interim mayor), and have seen in Ms. Mathiasen in action working on technology, communications, environmental issues, and getting things done to make the Borough a better place to live.

Ms. Mathiasen’s history as a consultant who helps other municipalities be better run has been a gift to Chatham Borough, and her expertise in municipal finance has directly benefited us all. She has overseen our budget and finance committee and the budget process in a way that has kept municipal taxes low and the quality of services high. This year the municipal tax increase was under 2% and a significant amount of debt was paid off. The Borough continues to have a AAA Bond Rating - a rare distinction for a municipality, especially in New Jersey.

Ms. Kay was appointed to fill Carolyn Dempsey’s vacant seat and has immediately gotten to work on major environmental initiatives as liaison to the Environmental Commission where I also serve. This was a big year for the EC as we worked to recertify the Borough’s “Silver” status with Sustainable Jersey and she jumped right in. I have been impressed with her thoughtfulness and passion.

Please support Jocelyn Mathiasen and Kate Hay this November.
