Chatham Doctor Saves Drowning Boy, 3, at Vacation Resort

A Chatham resident and northern New Jersey doctor is being heralded as a hero this week, after his quick-thinking saved the life of a boy found drowning in a pool, Wildwood Crest Police said.

On Monday, Aug. 31 at 2:22 p.m., Wildwood Crest police officers were dispatched to the Stockton Beach House on Stockton Road for a report of a male child, 3, drowning, Det. Sgt. Edward Gorski said.

When officers arrived, they found the child outside of the pool and semi-conscious, Gorski said. Jonathan O’Brien, a guest at the resort, was in the pool area and found the boy face down in the water, Gorski said. O’Brien then pulled the boy from the water and immediately began CPR, Gorski said.

“Dr. O’Brien’s quick thinking and actions directly resulted in saving the little boy’s life,” Gorski told Patch Thursday. “As of yesterday the update was (the boy) was being released and expected to make a full recovery!”

O’Brien’s medical field specialties include maternal and fetal medicine, OB/GYN, and is affiliated with Clara Maass Medical Center and Saint Barnabas Medical Center. His primary office is New Jersey Perinatal Associates in Livingston.
