Morris County Jewish Centers To Receive Federal Security Grants

The grants were awarded in the wake of multiple bomb threats to Jewish centers across the country.

CHATHAM, NJ — Months after a rash of bomb threats against synagogues and Jewish Community Centers, two dozen northern New Jersey Jewish centers will receive Department of Homeland Security grants to increase security, including two in Morris County.

Jewish Federation of Greater MetroWest in Whippany and Hebrew Congregation of Mount Freedom (Mt. Freedom Jewish Center) in Randolph are among the North Jersey Jewish centers to receive part of the $3.8 million in funding given to New Jersey. The grants are part of the Non-Profit Security Grant Program to increase physical security at "non profit organizations that are at a high risk of a terrorist attack," Congressman Rodney Frelinghuysen said.

Frelinghuysen announced the grants in his weekly newsletter on Friday. He also said that funding for the program will double in 2018, bringing the total from $25 million to $50 million.
