N.J. Man Arrested For Chatham Jewelry Store Robbery, 2 Suspects Still At-Large
Prosecutors say that a group of men robbed a Chatham jewelry store employee at gunpoint then tied him up with duct tape.
CHATHAM, NJ — Authorities have arrested a Newark man suspected of tying up a Chatham jewelry store employee and robbing him at gunpoint last month, but another suspect and a getaway driver still remain at-large, reports say.
On Friday, a Superior Court judge signed an arrest warrant for Michael Reed, 46, who was subsequently taken into custody at his mother’s house on Peshine Avenue in Newark. Police charged Reed with armed robbery, conspiracy, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, theft, burglary, being a convicted felon not permitted to have weapons and criminal restraint.
Police launched a massive manhunt for two, allegedly armed suspects following a robbery at Crescent Jewelers on Main Street in Chatham Borough on July 28.

Authorities previously stated that two men entered the store, tied up the employee on duty with duct tape and then stole more than $75,000 of jewelry before making their escape in a silver or gray Jeep driven by a third male. Prosecutors stated that Reed allegedly pointed a gun at the employee during the encounter.

Morris County Assistant Prosecutor Kelly Sandler asked a Superior Court judge to maintain Reed’s $250,000 bail during a Monday hearing, stating that Reed has been previously convicted for robbery, theft and narcotics offenses, the Daily Record reported.
Authorities reportedly recovered a gun and jewelry taken during the robbery while executing a search warrant at Reed’s residence in Newark, prosecutors said.
