Paddle Tennis Added As A Varsity Sport In Chatham

It'll have its inaugural season during winter of the 2017-2018 school year.

CHATHAM, NJ — Paddle tennis has been added as a varsity sport at Chatham High School. Its' inaugural season will take place during winter of the 2017-2018 school year.

Paddle tennis was first introduced last year as a club, and about 20 students participated, TapInto reported. The sport will not exempt students from taking gym classes, unlike other varsity sports, like soccer.

Not to be confused with table tennis, paddle tennis is more similar to outdoor tennis. The court, however, is smaller and the net is lower. Paddle tennis is played with a solid paddle, instead of a woven racquet.
