Presbyterian Church of Chatham Township Thanks the Community

hunger; food; pumpkins; thank you

Dear Editor,

On behalf of the Presbyterian Church of Chatham Township, we want to extend our gratitude to the greater Chatham community for their support of the 11th annual Pumpkin Patch. The Pumpkin Patch is a mission and service program, through an agreement with the Pumpkin Patch Fundraisers, which in cooperation with the Navajo Nation sells pumpkins that are grown on and transported from the Navajo Reservation in Farmington, NM.

We are thrilled to report that pumpkin sales plus donations totaled more than $26,000, enabling us to donate $5000 each to the Community Soup Kitchen and Outreach Center, Inc. in Morristown and the Community FoodBank of NJ in Hillside. The remaining monies were sent back to Pumpkin Patch Fundraisers to pay for the pumpkins and the transportation to NJ. The Pumpkin Patch is a community effort that involved over 100 adult and youth volunteers for the entire month of October, without whom this fundraising program would not have been possible. We would also like to thank the Boy Scouts from Troop 121 and Pack 24 and members of the Chatham High football team and cheerleading squad who all helped unload over 3,000 pumpkins from the truck to the church lawn, and Father Mahoney of Corpus Christi Church for ongoing publicity from the pulpit. What an impressive effort!
