Protect Community Events, Vote Hay and Mathiasen

I am a resident of Chatham and a senior citizen, and I was very upset to hear the Republican candidates for Chatham Borough Council argue at the debate that the Borough should stop supporting community events like Fishawack or important institutions like the Farmer's Market if these don't make money.

It may be true that these events don't always bring in as much money as they cost (by a small margin), but they are incredibly important to our community! They add a great deal of value as amenities that make Chatham Borough a desirable place to live and that bring us together.

I remember when Jocelyn Mathiasen and now-mayor Carolyn Dempsey first ran for office proposing a concert series at the Gazebo, which they implemented and which has since became a new summer tradition.

In contrast to the Republicans, Jocelyn Mathiasen and Kate Hay spoke about finding new and creative ways to support our farmer's market, holiday tree and menorah lightings, Fishawack, concerts, and more ... not abandoning them. They both have my vote.
