School Safety Update In Chatham Monday

Chatham Township and Chatham Borough Police Chiefs will be presenting to the Board of Education.

CHATHAM, NJ - Newly-minted Chatham Borough Police Chief Brian Gibbons and just-sworn-in Chatham Township Police Chief Thomas Miller will be presenting a safety and security update to the School District of the Chathams Board of Education on Monday.

Specifically both chiefs will be discussing the possibility of hiring Special Law Enforcement Officers (SLEOs) Class III for the district. These officers are generally armed and are retired officers. They report to the local chiefs of police and often the costs are split between the school and the municipalities. Typically, the school boards typically pay the salary for SLEO III cops and police departments provide equipment, including firearms and uniforms.

The meeting is scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m. in the Chatham High School Media Center at 255 Lafayette Avenue.
